Gaelscoil Na Ríthe, Rang 6

Last week the whole class went on a five day trip to the North West of Ireland in a place called Anagaire (pronounced Ana-gi-ra) which is a Gaeltacht (pronounced Gale-tocht). A Gaeltacht is place where only Irish (or Gaeilge (pronounced Gale-ge) is spoken). Visitors stay in the residents’ houses. The Gaeltacht that we were in was near a beach and an activity centre. We all had a great time and would definitely go back again. There are Gaeltachts all over the country.

Every class will go on a school tour before the end of term. Do you go on schol tours and if so where?

Gaelscoil na Ríthe

When the bell rings after break we all line up with our classes until the teacher comes out. The best line gets more time to play in the yard.
Do you line up in your school?

Gaelscoil na Ríthe, Our New Chickens

This week our chicken eggs have hatched and we have 5 new chicks. One is yellow and there are 4 black.

A chicken story

The process takes 21 days

The eggs

Eggs have slightly moist, protective coating or bloom when first laid. This should not be washed off as it prevents micro-organisms getting in through the pores of the shell and infecting the egg.

First crack

After three weeks the chick is fully formed and ready to hatch. An egg-tooth on the beak helps the chick to break through the shell.

Chick breaking through shell

Once the egg shell is cracked air gets into the egg which stimulates the chick to further activity.
