Gaelscoil na Rithe - School Tour Rang 5

For our school tour we went to Tanagh it’s a HUGE outdoor adventure centre. We went there on the 7th of June 2011. First we went canoeing; we did canoeing for about 1 hour, at the end we all got to jump out of the boats.

After that we did the Slippery Slope, Slippery slope is a big piece of white plastic on a hill covered in soapy water and then you slide down on it (mostly on your belly not your back).

After the wet activities we went on to do land activities, the first thing we did for that was orienteering it was fun, after we did an obstacle course which was great .The last thing we did was rock climbing, for the rock climbing we got 2 chances to climb to the top of the wall. We also played a game of gladiators which is when you have to try take the other peoples shoes off while climbing the wall.

On the bus when we were coming home our teacher bought us all a McDonalds which was yummy and there was a little playground and we played in it for a while. It was fun.

Tayto Park School Tour, Rang 3 & Rang 4

We went on our school tour this week. We had lots of fun in a place called Tayto Park. First we had a look at all the animals. A tour guide called James brought us around the place and gave us loads of information about the animals. Here’s a list of   some of the animals we saw: buffalos, birds, foxes, highland cows, donkeys, monkeys, pot bellied pigs, porcupines, lamas, wallabies, ducks, leopards and racoons.

After we had a look at the animals we went to the Tayto factory where they make 9 different types of crisps like Hunky Dorys, King Crisps, Tayto, and Chicketees. Did you know that Tayto Crisps were the first  in the world to add flavouring to crisps? After the factory we had lunch in the picnic area. After lunch we went to the Sky Eagle Zone where you can do loads of activities like rock climbing, bungee jumping and sky walking. There was face painting and body art in one of the tipi tents and we all got our names painted on our arms.

Our boys’ hurling team made history by winning our third succesive county tital when we beat Rathbeggan national School in the final.  We started well with an early goal and then we followed with two quick points. Rathbeggan responded with a point but we ended the half on a high note with a poacher’s goal from our full-forward. In the first ten minutes of the second half they put a lot of pressure on us but our defence held strong by only conceding a goal and a point. Then we finished them off with two well taken goals. The game ended 4-5 to 1-2.

After the game our captain Aodh O’Suilleabháin was presented with the cup to finish off the three in a row!!!
